The Manufacturing Engineer plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes for medical device products, and supports Operations to assure a quality product is produced utilizing Lean Manufacturing Methodologies.  Works directly with multiple departs representing the manufacturing team, collaborating with Quality Assurance, R&D, Procurement, and Regulatory Affairs. Works to improving existing and develops new product designs and processes to enhance the customer experience, decrease operational costs, or improve quality. Leads manufacturing engineering projects, develops capital equipment purchase justifications. Works collaboratively with the engineering manager mentoring the development of junior engineers.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: including the following and other duties as assigned
  • Provide improvement and sustaining engineering support for existing production lines.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing and inspection processes and procedures.
  • Provide process development engineering support for new product development projects.  
  • Initiate equipment modifications to improve productivity and product quality.
  • Work with outside vendors to coordinate the development of manufacturing equipment.
  • Work closely with maintenance department to improve machine reliability/reduce downtime including defining equipment maintenance requirements.
  • Assist with resolving issues with suppliers.
  • Assist with trouble shooting and repairing of equipment and tooling.
  • Assist with performing process failure mode effects analyses FMEA’s. 
  • Work with management to establish project timeliness, project justification, and budget forecasts.
  • Experience with 3D printers, CNC and Lasers


CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS: 

  • Experienced in the design and troubleshooting of complex machine control systems and programs.
  • Experience in the design and support of automation equipment and production lines is desirable.
  • Must be able to work alone and as a team member with good interpersonal and leadership qualities to get assigned tasks completed in a timely manner.
  • Must possess effective written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must possess good organizational and prioritization skills in order to maintain and address multiple assigned projects.  
  • Experienced in the design, development and qualification of manufacturing processes. 
  • Capable of performing in a medicinal device regulated environment, IQ, OQ, PQ validations experience preferred. 
  • Ability to program, troubleshoot CNC Equipment, PLC Equipment and 3D printers preferred.
  • Experience with Solid Works or other solid modeling software.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Capable of developing justification for capital expenditures, submittals of CAR’s 
 
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field or related discipline from an accredited university, preferred.
  • 2+ years experience in a manufacturing work environment.
  • Experience with completing Oracle Manufacturing transactions or similar system
  • Computer Skills: MS office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Minitab preferred.

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time (8 hours per day)
