The Group Lead will coach, develop and lead the hourly operations team for clear aligners orthodontic appliances (aligners) to ensure all products adhere to Ormco’s SQDIP goals (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity). They will collaborate with cross functional departments including materials, engineering, quality, and safety to achieve operations goals. They will drive operations to develop World Class Manufacturing processes utilizing EBS and lean manufacturing expertise. They are responsible for recruiting, training, and developing talent within the manufacturing cells to support growth, continuous improvement, and team building.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Adhere to the Danaher corporate model: S-DQIP- Safety, Delivery, Quality, Inventory, and Productivity.
o Conduct Daily Management meetings within the department, along with area leads.
o Work collaboratively with other functions, including:
o The Quality department to reduce external and internal defects.
o The Materials/Planning department and Mexico plants to improve on-time delivery and minimize inventory.
o The R&D department to support new production launches and validations.
o The Production Engineering department to reduce cost and improve productivity.
o Responsible for the 5S of the area, equipment availability and uptime, and associate absorption
o Work continuously with the manufacturing operators and maintenance technicians to improve machine output, equipment effectiveness, and quality through Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
o Responsible for the managing and reducing the costs to manufacture product.
o Coordinate and improve flow within manufacturing area through kaizen and standard work.
o Accountable for shift/area performance and ensure production schedules are met through optimum use of resources to maximize productivity.
o Regularly use lean tools, such as daily management and kaizen (5S, Standard Work, Kanban, etc.).
o Maintain high quality standards and compliance throughout the areas while practicing GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
o Perform employee training on GMP, MCI’s, SOP’s, Form’s, Safety, etc. and maintain training records.
o Adhere to all safety standards on the manufacturing floor. Conduct Safety Incident investigations and complete reports. Participate in EHS Committee Meetings.
o Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
o Maintain and approve attendance for hourly employees.
o Prepare work schedule for subsequent shift, including overtime schedules as required.
o Communicate with employees including distributing all company memos and pertinent information.
o Provide feedback to Manager on employee’s work performance and other situations as necessary.
o Initiate and foster a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
o Assist with resolving personnel situations: coaching, guidance, investigating, identifying solutions and recommending action.
o Own and execute associate development plans, and complete performance reviews.
o Flexible work schedule including overtime and other shift hours as required.

o Ownership of Key Performance Indicators for Quality, Delivery and Cost.
o Ability to use successfully root cause and problem solving tools to drive continuous improvement.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                      
o Directly supervises assigned department and provide backup to other departments.

LANUGUAGE SKILLS:                                                    
o Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization is required. Spanish is a plus.
 
COMPUTER SKILLS:                                                             
o To perform this job successfully, an individual should have complete knowledge and practical use of Microsoft office applications.
o Advanced knowledge in Computer Aided Design programs (required)
Reasoning Ability:
o Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
o Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
o Process improvement oriented
Math Ability:
o Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to calculate rates, ration and percent to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to discern trends, and analyze operational and financial reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:                                                 
o Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related fields required.
o 5+ years of experience managing operational teams
o Expertise in performing validation processes, quality analysis (including CAPA)
o Experiences in FDA regulated industries, i.e. validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), internal/external audits, lot-traceability, etc.
o Basic knowledge on Operation Finances, i.e. absorptions, variances, costs accounting, etc.
o Able to read and interpret engineering prints
o Strong Excel spreadsheet skills

PREFERRED SKILLS:
o 5 years of minimum experience in manufacturing of clear orthodontic appliances (aligners)
o Deep knowledge of aligners manufacturing processes (3D prototyping, thermoforming, laser marking, trimming and other)
o Familiar with Oracle; Manufacturing, Work In Process, and Shipping Modules
