Job description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the daily activities required to ensure the safe and efficient operation of production equipment at the Mahwah manufacturing plant by troubleshooting equipment issues, performing preventive maintenance, carrying out repairs, and documenting work performed, all while maintaining compliance with SOP, FDA, and ISO standards. The Maintenance Technician independently supports equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and helps ensure manufacturing continuity.


  • Perform routine and advanced preventive maintenance activities on manufacturing equipment according to established schedules and procedures.

  • Independently troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment issues to minimize production downtime.
  • Repair and replace machinery components including motors, sensors, actuators, belts, bearings, fittings, hoses, relays, switches, and other equipment components.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and maintenance requests, evaluating issues and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
  • Conduct equipment inspections and identify potential reliability concerns, escalating complex technical issues when necessary.
  • Support machine setup, equipment modifications, and installation activities to improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Assist with equipment validation, testing, and commissioning activities in compliance with SOP, FDA, and ISO standards.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and hydraulic diagrams to support troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Utilize maintenance management systems to accurately document work orders, inspections, repairs, parts usage, and equipment history.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, downtime reduction, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain tools, spare parts, and work areas in a safe, organized, and audit-ready condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies while performing maintenance activities.
  • Assist in the onboarding and training of Junior Maintenance Technicians as needed.
  • Effectively communicate equipment status, maintenance activities, and shift handoff information to team members, supervisors, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Work flexible hours including 2nd and 3rd shifts, weekends, overtime, and extended hours as business needs require.
  • Other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.

Job requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE


Critical Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience in lieu of education required.
  • College, technical school, or trade school degree in Engineering Mechanics, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electronics, or related field preferred.

Critical Skills/technical know-how:

  • Working knowledge of SOP, FDA, ISO, and applicable quality and regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems used in manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with CNC equipment and automated manufacturing systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices including lockout/tagout and safe equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance management software and computerized maintenance tracking systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and maintenance software systems.
  • Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, hydraulic diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to diagnose and replace faulty sensors, switches, relays, motor starters, actuators, and related components.
  • Ability to perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ability to prioritize maintenance activities effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring devices, and standard maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ability to accurately document maintenance activities and equipment performance data.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to maintenance, manufacturing, and supervisory personnel.
  • Flexibility to work overtime in response to business needs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform physical work for extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with others.

Critical Experience:

  • Minimum 3+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or similarly technical environment.
  • Demonstrated experience performing preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience using maintenance management systems and documenting maintenance activities.
  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, TPM, Six Sigma, or related operational excellence methodologies is a plus.
