EMEA Global Trade Compliance Specialist

Job Description:

We’re looking for an experienced EMEA Global Trade Compliance Specialist to join our team and support the execution of our Global Trade Compliance Program across Europe. In this role, you will ensure that cross-border shipments and trade operations meet U.S., EU, and local regulatory requirements while supporting business continuity and operational efficiency.

This is a hands-on, individual contributor role offering the opportunity to work closely with cross-functional teams, influence compliance practices across multiple sites, and contribute to a strong, risk-aware trade compliance culture.

Reporting to the EMEA Trade Compliance Operations Senior Manager, you will support the development and implementation of trade compliance policies, processes, and operational controls. Your work will help ensure that global trade activities are conducted efficiently, cost-effectively, and in full compliance with governmental laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-site tactical point of contact for trade compliance matters across EMEA.
  • Partner proactively with cross-functional stakeholders to support business requirements related to cross-border shipments.
  • Ensure shipping and receiving teams correctly manage import and export transactions.
  • Develop, maintain, and update trade compliance policies, procedure manuals, standard work documents, and work instructions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and recommend enhancements to existing procedures.
  • Lead and/or support trade compliance projects and initiatives under the guidance of the Senior Manager.
  • Ensure data integrity related to customs documentation, product classification, country of origin, valuation, BTI, and Free Trade Agreement eligibility.
  • Support preparation, submission, tracking, and monitoring of certificates of origin and special import/export permits.
  • Interact with external stakeholders and government authorities (e.g. Chambers of Commerce), as required.
  • Support and prepare for external customs audits; conduct internal audits and risk assessments of import and export transactions.
  • Perform post-entry adjustments with customs authorities in collaboration with valuation subject matter experts.
  • Manage supply chain trade security issues based on risk assessments.
  • Identify, lead, and support corrective action plans related to process gaps, KPI improvements, and broker management.
  • Prepare and deliver trade compliance training for business units and compliance liaisons globally.
  • Maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Review and approve sales transactions involving sanctioned or embargoed countries using GTM/GTS systems, with escalation support to the Senior Manager.
  • Support the legal department in investigating and resolving trade compliance issues.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Job Requirements (Mandatory)

  • 3+ years of experience in import/export operations and/or global trade compliance roles.

  • Expertise in HS classification and country‑of‑origin determination for products in the medical, pharmaceutical, industrial, and automotive sectors.

  • Fluency in English and Finnish; additional languages are an advantage.

Nice to Have/ Preferred Qualifications (it is a plus)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law or International Business (or equivalent).

  • Working knowledge of export regulations related to denied party screening, export licensing, trade sanctions and embargoes.

  • The EU Dual-Use Regulation (EU) 2021/821.

  • Background in freight forwarding or broker operations and/or experience as a licensed customs broker is highly desirable.
